A SEAT WAS ALWAYS YOURS.

You can know
every room—and still
have nowhere to belong.

We built BMG for the people who keep opening doors, creating opportunities, and carrying communities—while quietly wondering who is building something that can carry them.

Why we
built it
DETROIT-BORN · PEOPLE-CENTERED · BUILT TO LAST
BELONGING ACCESS HOSPITALITY CULTURE SUSTAINABILITY RECIPROCITY BELONGING ACCESS

Culture is not the backdrop.
It is how we build.

Better Management Group is rooted in the ways communities gather, care for one another, share knowledge, and create possibility together.

We translate that cultural wisdom into experiences, partnerships, and operating systems that make belonging tangible, opportunity more accessible, and shared value more durable.

This is how we build across hospitality, community, and enterprise.

Being invited into a room is not the same as being held by it.

Some people are surrounded by contacts and still move through the world unsupported. They are called when someone needs an introduction, an idea, a room, or a bridge—but too often, the relationship ends where the need does.

01

Connected.
Not carried.

Knowing people is not the same as having relationships capable of holding truth, need, or possibility.

02

Welcomed.
Conditionally.

Access can put someone in a room without changing whether they are safe, understood, or able to contribute fully.

03

Vision.
Without structure.

Powerful ideas disappear every day because the person carrying them lacks the systems, capital, or support to make them durable.

We are building so belonging, access, and opportunity do not have to depend on luck—or on knowing the right person at exactly the right moment.

THE INVITATION

We want to build with

Prepared to contribute to shared value.

One learned to open doors.
One changed what happens inside.

Jay and Sareta did not begin with a perfectly named system. They began with lived questions, different gifts, a marriage, a family, and the responsibility of building while carrying real life.

Jay Rayford

FOUNDER + MANAGING PARTNER

Jay Rayford

Jay has spent more than two decades creating proximity: to people, culture, information, rooms, and possibility. The road moved through SYMBOL, RepYourCity, City Loyalty, Social Sushi, years of service, and countless moments when he showed up before there was a title or transaction attached. His gift is seeing the opening—and building a path wide enough for somebody else to enter.

Sareta Rayford

CO-FOUNDER + HUMAN-DEVELOPMENT ARCHITECT

Sareta Rayford

Sareta is a system builder in her own right. She created and owns the RITAS Framework and holds authority across culture, experience integrity, participant conditions, boundaries, and sustainability. Her work asks more than whether people can enter a system. It asks whether the system sees their humanity, gives them usable tools, and remains worthy of their participation.

THE MEETING POINT
Jay helps people find and enter the room. Sareta makes sure the room is built for the people inside it.

BMG lives where those responsibilities meet. Not as a polished story about having all the answers, but as an operating commitment: family, business, community, healing, and legacy should not require separate versions of who we are.

Before there was a company, there was a pattern.

The names changed. The rooms changed. The lesson did not: when people trust the invitation, culture can become a bridge to something they did not know was available to them.

1

Early work

SYMBOL

An early lesson that identity, culture, and expression can organize people before an institution ever exists.

2

Community

RepYourCity + City Loyalty

Community pride became a platform. City Loyalty’s launch event became the very first Social Sushi experience.

3

2012–2017

Social Sushi

A six-year live lab that used food to create connection across more than one hundred Detroit experiences.

4

Now

SushiRitas + BMG

The move from borrowing rooms to building a permanent front door—and the infrastructure to hold what happens after people meet.

6 YEARSOF LISTENINGSocial Sushi taught us who kept showing up, what they valued, and what made them return. BMG carries that learning forward—designing strategies, partnerships, and experiences where shared values become trusted relationships, and trusted relationships become durable opportunity.

An event can create a moment.
It takes infrastructure to make that moment last.

Social Sushi proved that people would cross boundaries for the right experience. But a great night does not automatically become a durable relationship. Access does not automatically become opportunity. Inspiration does not automatically become execution.

Better Management Group was created to hold what happens next: the strategy, governance, operating systems, relationships, and stewardship required to turn moments of belonging into something people can return to and build from.

One architecture.
Multiple doors in.

Each expression does distinct work. Together, they move people from welcome to relationship, restoration, and sustainable possibility.

The architecture + integrator

Better Management Group

BMG holds the strategy, governance, relationship infrastructure, data, partner orchestration, and enterprise stewardship that allow the whole ecosystem to work as one—without flattening what makes each expression distinct.

Bring us the work
that matters.

We are best suited for consequential work at the intersection of people, place, experience, and execution.

A

Ideas that move rooms

Speaking

Keynotes, fireside conversations, panels, and facilitated sessions grounded in lived experience—not borrowed theory.

  • Belonging is infrastructure
  • Hospitality as human development
  • The power of broke—and building anyway
  • Turning proximity into possibility
B

Ambition made executable

Strategy + Consulting

We help founders, restaurants, and community-serving organizations turn ambitious ideas into fundable plans, operating systems, and experiences people can actually execute.

  • Concept and ecosystem design
  • Operating strategy
  • Partnership architecture
  • Community-centered experience design
C

Build with us

Aligned Partnerships

We work with people and institutions prepared to contribute real resources, access, expertise, space, or opportunity to work that creates shared value.

  • Program and event collaborations
  • Training and team experiences
  • Sponsorship and resource alignment
  • Place-based pilots

Relationship is part of the work—not a shortcut to it.

The partnership becomes real when we:

  • Build with communities, not merely for them
  • Resource execution, not just endorse ideas
  • Value cultural context, candor, and reciprocity
  • Measure what becomes better together

What we do not do: logo-only exchanges, passive promotion, unpaid scope, selling introductions, or activity beyond our capacity.
